CLE DE PEAU CONCEALER

I have always salivated a bit when I come across this line at my local Holt Renfrew.

I read about this concealer in magazines; I read positive reviews on line; I read that celebrities use it. It unquestionably has a cult following.
I heard about it so much I think WOW it must actually be good.

So after harnessing my rather unmanageable instinct to BUY BUY BUY for months I finally broke down.

This is what I got for my 85$. OUCH!

The Promise
-locks in moisture
-flawless skin in any light
-creaseless
-full coverage
-conceals acne, dark circles, freckles
-smooth finish

The Pure Truth
OK well I did mention that this had a cult following.
Cults usually have a smooth talking leader at the head of the pack with a some easily swayed followers. Where the hype about this concealer started is unclear but I am going to have to stray from the pack because I couldn't be more disappointed.

I tried this product with:

  • no eye cream
  • 3 different kinds of eye cream
  • 2 different kinds of brushes
  • my fingers
  • 2 different kinds of setting powder
  • warming it up
Nothing seemed to work. The claim that it is crease-less is completely false. Mine creased using an appropriate amount of product with and without eye cream.

There are 4 colours to choice from and they recommend using "HONEY"  to colour correct if you have more noticeable darkness then applying the appropriate colour match.

I only bought my colour match and after using just one layer I could not imagine what layering two would look like.
Their claim that it would be "flawless in any light" is so inaccurate that I have to use every other synonym to underscore how erroneaus, unfounded, and fallicious that statement is.

The colour 'beige' was an ok match for me but it certainty did not create a "flawless sublime" finish for either face or under eye.

The Bottom Line
This was voted Neiman Marcus 2012 award winner which begs the question:
Why is a retail store that's sole purpose is to peddle products having their own awards?
Seems a wee bit fishy to me.

Over the years of working in the industry I have used many concealers such as:
Joe Blasco
Duwop
Fresh
3 different Mac concealers
Amazing Cosmetics
2 different Make-Up Forever
Benefit
Smashbox
Christian Dior
Yves St. Laurant
Armani
Laura Mercier
Urban Decay...and probably ones I can't remember.

In comparison this utimately is not the worst concealer but it most definitely not worth the high price.

Rating
The colour range, texture, and price make this one an ill advised purchase.
One good point is I was able to return it and get my money back, so it gets a point for that.

Only 2.5 out of 5 for you CLE DE PEAU
